Boobies!

Could you ever imagine seeing this on the cover of a newspaper in the US? MetroXpress is one of our free daily newspapers that you can find everyone on the train and around town reading. This is by no means a scandalous article, it is about breast cancer awareness. The article wanted to show that everyone no matter the size or shape, gender or color can be affected by breast cancer. Now if you want scandalous, too bad I missed the issue a couple of weeks ago with vibrators on the cover!

  1. I think it's a worthy effort, but talk and breast photos are rather cheap in a country with one of the worst breast cancer survival rates in Europe.

There's much to be done here beginning with getting the word out just how badly Denmark is failing in this aspect.

  2. Thanks for your comment but I will have to disagree with you. I believe your information is a wee bit dated. It is true that Denmark used to have one of the higher mortality rates for breast cancer, but over the past 10 years that rate has dropped significantly due to public awareness and an increase in screening. One of the major ways to decrease the mortality rate is with early detection. I expect the number to drop even more as the health system and the media strive to bring about even greater awareness through supporting campaigns such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here are some links to where I found the statistical data to show the decrease.

  3. ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the photo...not the content. I would love to see the face of a conservative preacher in the bible belt of Texas opening his paper on a Sunday morning to this surprise!

  4. Kelli...I know, right? From the minute I saw this all I could think of was the Southern Baptists getting their panties all in a wad. That is one thing I do not miss from home! LoL

  5. The Care-4 studies were a bit more damning http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1164295/Cancer-survival-rates-Britain-wost-Europe.html

What is considered early detection here? Aren't mammograms for anyone under the age of 50 here still considered optional or unnecessary? My GP had to write up a referral for me, and explained that they aren't encouraged yearly. I'd be interested in reading something about other efforts towards early detection and how effective they have been here if you have a link or two.
